Over the last decade Clarkson fans have become accustomed to some of the best players in the college game grabbing the headlines night in and night out. Seldom does the depth of the Clarkson line up get the recognition it deserves, but in today's 3-1 in at Princeton the strength of the Clarkson line up was on display. Without their top point producer and several other players, Clarkson went into Hobey Baker rink and despite falling behind 1-0, scored 3 unanswered for the 3-1 victory. The regulation win gives the Knights 21.5 points and puts them in first place in the ECAC.
Princeton, like Clarkson was shorthanded due to COVID protocols, missing multiple player and even their head coach. The two teams traded chances in the first but were unable to breakthrough until midway thru the 2nd period when Princeton scored to take the 1-0 lead. The Knights answered back quickly when
Haley Winn scored at the 12:52 mark. In the 3rd period,
Gabrielle David got her team leading 14th goal of the season to give the Knights the lead. Clarkson took a penalty late in the 3rd and Princeton pulled the eldest McQuigge sister for the extra attacker but sister Brooke was able to control a rebound and then send it the length of the ice to seal the win for Clarkson.
Michelle Pasiechnyk made 32 saves, her highest total of the season so far. Clarkson still out shot the tigers 40-33.
Clarkson will travel to Quinnipiac where they will face off against the #4 ranked Bobcats who were off tonight as St. Lawrence was unable to play this weekend.
Tomorrow's game can be seen on ESPN+ in the US and on TSN in Canada.
