Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Knights Fall in Opening Round of Liberty League Tournament to Ithaca, 15-8

Ithaca, NY – For the first 30 minutes, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team hung with 10th-ranked Ithaca College and the Golden Knights were giving the home team their best shot, but the second half saw the home team find another gear as the Bombers downed Clarkson 15-8 in a Liberty League First Round playoff game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Knights saw their season end with a record of 9-6 overall while Ithaca improved to 15-2 on the year.

The Bombers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening three minutes, but Clarkson took that first jab and came back to score at the 9:30 mark as Sydney Roderick found Sofie Mangino for the Knights' first goal. Clarkson picked up two more goals over the final seven minutes of the quarter to tie the game at 3-3, quieting Ithaca's offense for the final 11:45.

Clarkson picked up a quick goal in the first minute of the second quarter to take the lead, and held a one-goal advantage for the next 10 minutes, extending Ithaca's scoreless streak to more than 20 minutes. However, the Bombers scored at the 4:26 mark of the second to tie the game 4-4 and then scored two in the final two minutes of the period to take a 6-4 lead at the break.

After going more than 22 minutes without a goal, Ithaca made the Knights go without a score for nearly 20 minutes, taking advantage with a four-goal spurt at the start of the third quarter. Although Mangino scored at the 5:02 mark to end the streak, Ithaca tallied the next two goals for a 12-5 advantage through three periods.

Hailey Millington scored a player-up goal to start the fourth, but the two teams essentially traded scores for the rest of the game and Clarkson was unable to make up the deficit.

Ithaca finished with a 37-23 edge in shots and a 25-15 lead in shots on goal, also gaining 13 free-position shots to Clarkson's seven. The Bombers won the battle of groundballs 23-12, though the draw control margin was smaller at just 15-12.

Millington led the Knights with three goals while Mangino scored twice and Roderick assisted on two goals. Julia Lavarnway, Mia Petrone, and Madelynn Barnum also added a goal each, while Barnum also contributed six draws. Grace Hagberg and Kim Parker caused two turnovers each, and Sydney Christiansen stopped 10 shots in the Clarkson crease.

For Ithaca, Megan Motkowski had seven points on four goals and three assists and Sydney Phillips contributed five goals and an assist for six points. Madison Moutureira also chipped in four goals for the Bombers. Lexi Held made seven saves for Ithaca.
