Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Clarkson Wins Second of Weekend with 3-1 Victory Over Colby-Sawyer

Potsdam, NY – Senior Sarah Kohls had a part in all three of the goals for the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team on Sunday afternoon, as the Golden Knights picked up a 3-1 win over Colby-Sawyer College to close out the opening weekend at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights moved to 2-0 on the season and will hit the road to take on Cortland State on Wednesday evening. Colby-Sawyer dropped to 0-2-1 on the year.

It took little time for the Knights to get on the scoreboard, as their first possession resulted in a goal. After a quick restart eight seconds into the game, the Knights picked up a goal at the 36-second mark when Angelina Fahrenkrug sent a pass to Kohls on the opposite side and her right-footed attempt snuck inside the post to put Clarkson up 1-0.

That would be all the scoring for the Knights for the remainder of the half, though it wasn't for a lack of shots. Clarkson had 10 attempts in the first half, but most were wide or high by significant margins.

Clarkson scored what proved to be the game-winner when Kohls was able to beat one defender and the Chargers' goalkeeper Alexis Lebreton at the 58:55 mark, tapping in a shot from about eight yards out. About 17 minutes later, Kohls helped keep the offense rolling by maintaining possession just outside the box on the right side and sending a cross into traffic. That pass found the top of the head of sophomore Emily Davis, who knocked it into the left corner at 76:14.

The Chargers countered quickly after Clarkson's third goal, breaking through with one of their own. Hannah Himes gained possession near midfield and found her teammate Bridget O'Connell on the right side. O'Connell carried the ball with a few touches and then beat the defense with a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar and fell over the goal line at 76:39.

Clarkson finished with a 24-7 advantage in shots, though the margin was just 12-6 in terms of shots on goal. The Knights also ended up with a 4-2 lead in corner kicks. Molly DiCaprio made five saves for the Knights, while Lebreton stopped nine shots for the Chargers.
