Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights Tie Second-Ranked CWRU 1-1

Dallas, PA – Although the game ended in a tie, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team made a statement on Sunday afternoon, as the Golden Knights finished knotted up with the second-ranked team in the nation in Case Western Reserve University.

The Golden Knights saw their record to go 3-0-1 as they remained undefeated, and Case Western Reserve also has a 3-0-1 mark. The Green and Gold will face SUNY Canton on Wednesday evening.

The two teams struggled to get much going offensively in the early going, as neither team produced many shots in the first half. The shots that did occur were generally from 20-yards or more out and did not challenge either team's goalkeeper. A volleyed shot from the top of the box nestled into Molly DiCaprio's arms at 5:34, and Julia Tylar's direct kick from 25 yards out was stopped by Maggie Storti of CWRU. Clarkson had another shot at a goal when Brooke Everest's goal was tipped away.

The Golden Knights got on the scoreboard in the 37th minute, as Julia Tylar's corner kick found the head of Callie Abel in the box, as Clarkson became the first team all season to lead against the Spartans, a team that participated in last year's NCAA Division III National Championship game.

The Knights ended the half with a 4-2 lead in shots in the first 45 minutes, and the two teams were tied at 3-3 in corner kicks.

The Spartans came out with renewed offensive push in the second half, but DiCaprio was up to task for the first 10 minutes. Case Western ended up tying the game, however, as a cross from the corner was sent to the top of the box. The shot from there resulted in a collision between DiCaprio and a Spartans player as they went to finish the play one way or another, and the ball bounced out to the foot of Maggie Farra, who cleaned up the play with a hard kick into the open net at 58:01.

The Spartans continued to produce chances, with the best perhaps coming with just two minutes remaining. Off a direct kick from the corner, a header was tipped away by DiCaprio, and the following attempt went wide, as both teams had to settle for the tie.

CWRU finished with a 10-6 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners. DiCaprio shined, making five saves for the Knights, while Storti also played well with five stops for the Spartans.
