Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Knights down Engineers 3-1

Clarkson answered a late RPI score to regain their two goal lead and close out tonight's game with a 3-1 final, marking the 20th win of their season.

The Golden Knights offense was all over RPI from the opening puck drop, opening up an 11-1 shot advantage through the first 10 minutes of play. After sustained offensive zone pressure, Clarkson was able to draw an early power play as RPI's Maddy Papineau received a roughing penalty at the 4:54 mark. Clarkson's power play added just one shot, but continued their pursuit of owning the possession.

Brooke McQuigge extended her point streak to four games, opening the scoring just over the halfway point in the first period. Anne Cherkowski and Dominique Petrie assisted on the goal which came with 9:22 remaining. Petrie's assist extended an impressive point streak over her own, now with points in six straight games.

The Engineer's top line was sent to the box again a couple minutes after McQuigge opened the scoring, with a tripping penalty assessed to their Captain, Marah Wagner. This time the Golden Knights' 5th ranked power play capitalized as Haley Winn wired a shot from the left circle that resulted in a big rebound to the stick of Nicole Gosling, who smoked it into a gaping net. Anne Cherkowski gained her second assist on the play, along with Winn at 14:14. Clarkson would hold their 2-0 lead into the intermission, outshooting RPI 16-4.

The second period featured a slow start with both teams tying up the neutral zone. Each side combined for only three shots on goal in the opening 10 minutes of the middle segment. The Engineers would give a push around the midpoint in the period, forcing Michelle Pasiechnyk to make a couple timely saves to keep the lead at two. Late in the period, RPI would again send the Golden Knights to the power play as Meg Hildner was sent off for tripping. Clarkson's power play came up empty handed, forcing a pair of shots but unable to find the back of the net. After the second period, the score was unchanged with the Golden Knights in the lead 2-0.

RPI sent Clarkson to the penalty kill for the first time 9:39 into the final period, sending the Knights top ranked PK into action. The Engineers were unable to get a shot on goal during their advantage. Clarkson would force their most potent power play chance later in the third period with an opportunity to ice the game. Nina Cristof was charged for hooking with 6:06 remaining in the period. The Golden Knights shot six on frame, but were denied on all of their chances keeping the lead 2-0.

As time began to run down on the Engineers, they revived some life scoring to cut the lead in half with 3:28 remaining, ending Pasiechnyk's bid at a second consecutive shutout. The Golden Knights offense bounced right back as Brooke Mcquigge netted her second goal of the game to extend the lead back to two. Dominique Petrie added her second assist as the top line suffocated the opposing comeback hopes. RPI would pull their goaltender for the final 90 seconds, but Clarkson's strong defensive play held up to close out the victory.

Clarkson's power play finished 1 for 4, and their penalty kill was successful in its only call to duty. Michelle Pasiechnyk stopped 16 of 17 shots for her 15th win of the campaign. The Golden Knights advanced to 20-1-2 overall, 9-0-1-1 in ECAC play, extending on their best start to a season in program history. Matt Desrosiers earned his 13th 20-win season in his 16th season behind the Golden Knights bench.

The team returns to action tomorrow for a Saturday afternoon game, hosting the Union Garnet Chargers at 3:00 PM EST. Coverage will begin at 2:50 PM with the pregame show on ESPN+ and B99.3 fm.
