Clarkson University honored Jack Phillips, a former baseball standout for the Golden Knights and in Major League Baseball, on Saturday, May 3 when the Snell Field stadium was dedicated in Jack’s name.
“On behalf of the Clarkson University Athletic Department, I would like to whole-heartedly congratulate Jack on his long-overdue honor. Growing up in Potsdam, I played ball in high school with his son, Jack Jr., and later roomed with the younger Jack during our freshman year at Clarkson. Later on, Jack Sr. and I worked alongside one another at Clarkson for numerous years prior to his retirement. I can honestly say that Jack has meant a lot to me, and I’m sure he has meant just as much to thousands of others in both the Clarkson and Potsdam communities.”
“As an inaugural Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame member, Jack’s accomplishments on the field, in the coaching box, and as a shaper of student-athletes are well-documented. What separates him is his continuing devotion and affection for a school from which he graduated 65 years ago. I hope that this rising monument to Jack will further inspire future Clarkson graduates to recall similar fondness for the University when they have graduated as well.”
