Canton, NY – Senior Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY) delivered her second straight 30-plus assist match as the Clarkson University Volleyball team sent Oswego State to a three-set loss, 25-20, 25-16, 25-15, Saturday afternoon at St. Lawrence’s Burkman Gymnasium.
The Golden Knights improved to 13-2 on the season, matching the best start in school history (the 1987 Knights began the season won 15 of their first 17 matches). Clarkson looks to continue its winning streak on Tuesday when it hosts Potsdam State at Alumni Gymnasium.
"It was quite the contrast today with the intense environment we were in yesterday, so we needed some time to get used to that,” said Clarkson head coach Johan Dulfer. “I was pleased with how well we passed today, but we made too many unforced errors early in the match. Once that issue got better, I thought we took complete control. We're happy to have played so close to home this weekend and come away with two important wins. Now we focus on Potsdam and SUNYIT in the lead up to a tough weekend for us. We look forward to getting battle tested even more in the next week or so."
After a tough first set, the Knights cruised in the final two games. Sophomore Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY) recorded 13 kills and Megan Mahon (Irvine, CA) contributed eight kills and four aces. Stock led the team with 31 assists. Three different players reached double-figures in digs, led by junior Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY), who had 22. Davanna Chetney (Fulton, NY) and Mahon each added in 10 digs.
More impressively on defense, the Knights recorded eight solo blocks and 14 block assists in the match. Rachel Simons (Webster, NY) had six total blocks, including three solos, while Nicole Edwards (Weiser, ID) and MacKenzie Cook (Syracuse, NY) each produced three total blocks.
