The Golden Knights, who entered the weekend ranked fourth in the New York Region and finished the season with a 28-6 record overall and a 24-3 record in the New York and the surrounding states, won the conference tournament for the first time in the program's history on Saturday. However, the Liberty League has just five teams and does not receive an automatic bid. That said, the Liberty League's top team, not necessarily the one that wins the conference championship tournament, normally gains admittance to the NCAA Tournament.
Fortunately for Clarkson, it was the top team in the conference all season long. Including the conference tournament, the Golden Knights went 9-1 against teams in the league and were awarded the top seed. Also, none of the other four teams has surpassed Clarkson in any of the first three regional ranking polls.
