After a disappointing four-game road trip, Clarkson made a highly successful home stand at Cheel Arena over the weekend with two big wins, defeating Princeton, 4-3, and Quinnipiac, 4-1. The Knights put together two productive offensive outings and received strong goaltending from sophomore Paul Karpowich (Thunder Bay, ONT) to put an end to a lengthy nine-game (0-8-1) winless stretch.
Sophomore Corey Tamblyn (Bobcaygeon, ONT) and senior assistant captain Matt Beca (Mississauga, ONT) powered the offense with a pair of goals each, and Karpowich, who was selected as ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week, combined for 51 saves in the Knights’ first conference victories in 2010.
Junior defenseman Dan Reed’s (Walworth, NY) first collegiate goal highlighted the Golden Knights’ win over Princeton on Friday, which was Clarkson’s first league victory since posting a 3-2 triumph at Dartmouth on November 20.
With goals from four different players, another steady performance in goal by Karpowich, and a strong effort on the penalty kill, the Green and Gold completed their first weekend sweep in ECAC Hockey play since defeating Yale and Brown on the road on January 16-17, 2009.
Clarkson is 1-11-2 on opponent’s home ice this season.
After closing out January with a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1), Brown has struggled defensively in February being outscored 21-12 during a four-game winless skid (0-3-1). This past weekend, the Bears lost at Cornell (5-3) and Colgate (6-2). Guided by first-year head coach Brendan Whittet, Brown owns a 7-15-3 overall record and is in 10th place in ECAC Hockey with a 5-10-3 conference slate. The Bears are 5-5-2 at Meehan Auditorium this season.
ECAC Hockey front-runner Yale enters the weekend with a 16-6-3 overall record and has a two-point lead over second-place Cornell with a 12-4-2 league mark. The Bulldogs, guided by fourth-year head coach Keith Allain, have won four straight prior to hosting St. Lawrence on Friday. This past weekend in Central NY, Yale doubled up Colgate 6-3 in Hamilton and then in a battle between a pair of Top-10 ranked squads, the Bulldogs edged Cornell 2-1 in overtime at Lynah Rink in Ithaca. Yale has gone 9-3-1 in 2010. The Bulldogs are 8-2-1 at Ingalls Rink.

Yale came away with two points in the first meeting this season with a 3-2 triumph in Potsdam on January 22.
