Trio Gains Liberty League Weekly Honors

Overall, the Clarkson University Athletic Department had a solid week in each of its athletic offerings, and on Monday several Golden Knights gained Liberty League Weekly honors with freshman John Coleman (Potsdam, NY), senior Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY), and senior Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) gaining conference notice.

For the fourth time this year, freshman John Coleman of the Clarkson University Men’s Basketball team was selected as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after averaging 16 points per game over the course of three contests in the past seven days.

Coleman averaged 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists during a 2-1 week for the Golden Knights. For the week he shot 82.8 percent (24-for-29) from the field, including an 11-for-13 performance that netted a team-best 22 points against Rensselaer on Saturday. It was his third 20-point game of the season and was just one point shy of his career-high.

For the season, Coleman ranks in the top 10 in the Liberty League in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (7.1 rpg), assists (3.1 apg), blocks (0.8 bpg) and assists/turnover ratio (47-19). He leads the conference in offensive rebounds (57) and leads the league while ranking second in the nation in field goal percentage (69.8%).

The Clarkson University Men’s Swim team closed outs its dual meet season this past weekend with a 3-0 mark, and senior Mike Rowe was a key part of the victories. On Monday, his performance was recognized by the conference as he was named Liberty League Swimmer of the Week.

Rowe posted three victories on Friday and three more on Saturday. In a dual meet against Potsdam, he closed out his home career with a solid performance on senior day, winning the 100 backstroke (1:02.59), 200 backstroke (2:18.52) and 400 freestyle (4:22.71). In a double-dual meet versus Utica College and Cazenovia College, Rowe bested his times on Friday in the shorter pool, winning the 100 backstroke (57.40), 200 butterfly (2:08.88) and 500 freestyle (5:08.09). Each day, Rowe was also a part of winning relay squads for the Knights.

Senior guard Carey Turner of the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team was rewarded for her solid three-game stretch this past week when she was named a Liberty League Performer of the Week on Monday.

Turner averaged 12.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game, including a double-double against Skidmore where she recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also tossed in 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game over the three conference games.

On the season, Turner is averaging 10.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game over the course of 13 contests this year. She is also just seven points shy of becoming the 17th player in Clarkson Women’s Basketball history to record 800 career points.
