Clarkson Athletics Adds Nine Inductees to its Hall of Fame with the Class of 2026

The Clarkson Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee is proud to announce the addition of nine new members to the Golden Knights' Athletic Hall of Fame, as the new inductees will be enshrined during the annual Cold Out Gold Out (COGO) Weekend.

The Clarkson Athletics HOF Class of 2026 is the first to be added to the lengthy roll call of past Clarkson standouts since 2023. Below are the members of the Class of 2026 with a brief summary of their accolades. In-depth features will be released as the January 31, 2026 induction date approaches.

The Class of 2026 (in alphabetical order):

Hugo Belanger (Class of 1993) - Hockey

Belanger ranks third all-time in scoring at Clarkson with 81 goals and 124 assists for 205 points, with his goal total placing him eighth on the Knights list and his assists total the second-best figure. Belanger helped the Knights reach four NCAA Tournaments during his four seasons and was chosen as ECAC Tournament MVP. A two-time ECAC All-Star, he was picked for the Second-Team as junior and as Honorable Mention as a sophomore, as well as being named to the ECAC All-Rookie team in 1989-90. Belanger was selected in the 8th round (163rd overall) in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and went on to play 15 seasons in hockey's minor leagues.


Alex Benway (Class of 2012) – Cross Country/Nordic Skiing

Benway was a three-time Liberty League All-Star as a cross country runner, becoming only the second Golden Knight to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in November 2011, where he placed 47th overall in Wisconsin. Additionally, Benway placed second overall at the USCSA Nordic Ski National Championships in March 2012, winning two of the three races and placing 10th in the other.


John Coleman (Class of 2015) – Baseball/Basketball

Coleman is perhaps the most decorated student-athlete in the history of Clarkson Athletics, earning seven Liberty League All-Star honors as a dual sport athlete. He was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in both sports in 2012 and then won Liberty League Player of the Year honors for both in 2015, earning ABCA All-American Second-Team status in 2015. He finished as Clarkson's all-time leading scorer in basketball and ranks in the top 10 in numerous categories in baseball.  To top off his career, Coleman was named as a "NCAA Today's Top 10 Award winners" in 2016.  The award recognizes former athletes for their successes on the field, in the classroom and in the community, given to 10 student athletes across all three divisions in college athletics.  

Lani Durio (Class of 2014) – Volleyball

The starting setter at the start of the Golden Knights lengthy run of dominance in the New York Region, Durio is the program's all-time leader in assists per set and total assists as well as ranking high in service aces. She guided one of the top offenses in the country during her stay as setter for the Knights, leading the team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including two NCAA Quarterfinals. She was picked as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year in 2010 and was the Liberty League Player of the Year in 2013.

Greg Gibbons (Class of 2009) – Lacrosse

A USILA All-American Honorable Mention as a senior, Gibbons was one of the most consistent scoring threats in program history, recording at least 47 points in all four seasons with Clarkson. The Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Year in 2006 and a four-time Liberty League All-Star, Gibbons finished his collegiate career third on Clarkson's all-time scoring list with 213 points, including 149 goals, which is the second highest figure in program history.

Jamie-Lee Rattray (Class of 2014) – Women's Hockey

The first member of Clarkson's Athletic Hall of Fame from the Division I era of the program, Rattray helped lead the Golden Knights to the NCAA Division I National Championship in 2014. In a season for the ages, she won virtually every award possible, including the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as Women's Hockey's Player of the Year. She led the country in points (66) thanks to 29 goals and 37 assists, finishing as Clarkson's all-time leading scorer (since surpassed) with 181 points.

Adrian Villa (Class of 1974) - Benefactor

A 1974 graduate of Clarkson with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Villa has enjoyed a successful professional career in engineering and defense-related industries, including work with American Science & Engineering, Inc and Raytheon Technologies.  Throughout his distinguished career in the US and overseas, Villa has remained connected to Clarkson and has become a vital benefactor to Clarkson Golden Knights Athletics. He has been instrumental in the most recent Cheel Renovations, along with the newly updated soccer locker rooms and medical suite at Walker Center.  Villa has an endowed a scholarship for hockey and is an avid supporter of the Clarkson Hockey program.  

Charlie Weisman (Class of 1997) - Swimming

Another first-time selection from a sport at Clarkson, Weisman becomes the first Golden Knight swimmer to be added to the Hall of Fame. Weisman earned All-American status in the 100 butterfly in March of 1997 in Ohio, setting long-standing records in the 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly events. His 200 butterfly record stood for more than two decades and his 100 butterfly mark was topped for the first time in December 2025, as he held that program mark for nearly 29 years.  Charlie is the only swimmer to qualify for multiple NCAA Championships and the first Golden Knight swimmer ever to gain All-America recognition in back-to-back seasons.

Steve Yianoukos (Class of 1972) - Administrator

Long-time athletic director Steve Yianoukos oversaw considerable growth during his tenure leading the Golden Knights' Athletic Department. Yianoukos had a 35-year tenure in the athletic department in various roles, but became the school's eighth athletic director in 2005 and held the position until his retirement in 2019. The Clarkson Women's Hockey program won three national titles and 34 different student-athletes achieved All-American status under his watch, along with being instrumental in adding Women's Softball.
