Box Score
A lengthy unbeaten streak against its archrival came to an end for the Clarkson University Hockey team on Saturday night at Cheel Arena as St. Lawrence University shut out the Golden Knights 4-0 in non-league action before 3,825 North Country fans.

Clarkson, which skated to a 2-2 tie with the Saints in Canton on Friday, had a seven-game (5-0-2) unbeaten streak snapped against its rival. The Knights, at 2-4-2 overall, will look to break out of a six-game (0-4-2)  winless skid, when they open ECAC Hockey play next weekend on the road. Clarkson plays at 2013 NCAA National Champion Yale on Friday to begin the 22-game league slate, followed by a game at Brown.

Clarkson put 30 shots on the St. Lawrence goal, but could not get one past the Saints' freshman goaltender Kyle Hayton, who posted his second shutout of the season. The Knights' held St. Lawrence (4-3-1) to 19 shots.

The Green and Gold controlled play in the first period with a 12-4 shot advantage and generated sustained pressure in the offensive zone, but it was the Saints who scored first, taking advantage of a Clarkson miscue late in the stanza. Looking to move the puck out of the zone two Knights skated into each other, knocking the puck free. St. Lawrence capitalized with Chris Martin firing in a shot from the slot with 1:13 remaining in the period.

The Saints added to their lead midway through the middle frame despite being outshot by the Knights 11-6 in the stanza. Mike Marnell made it 2-0 when he tipped in a pass from Brian Ward for a power-play marker at 13:16.

In the final stanza St. Lawrence held a 9-7 shot margin and Gunnar Hughes made two off the scoring opportunities count late in the game to seal the Saints' first win in Potsdam since December 5, 2009. St. Lawrence's captain scored with three minutes to play and added an empty-net tally with 1:13 left.

Clarkson was 0-of-2 on the power play, while St. Lawrence went 1-of-2 with the man-advantage.

Sophomore Steve Perry (Ligonier, PA) made 15 saves for the Knights.
