In First Ever Meeting Clarkson Ties Wisconsin 1-1

In the first ever meeting between the two national powers, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team played the Wisconsin Badgers to a 1-1 tie on Saturday afternoon before a sellout crowd of 2,273 at La Bahn Arena in Madison.
 
Ranked 7th/8th in the country, Clarkson is now 15-6-3 while fourth-ranked Wisconsin stands at 18-4-3.

Clarkson freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) had a career high 34 saves as the Badgers outshot the Golden Knights 35-14.
 
"We're really happy with the way the players competed today," said Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "Wisconsin is a good team that keeps coming at you in waves so I thought our effort and commitment to blocking shots was great.  Shea played great today making some big saves for us as well. We had a few chances that we weren't able to capitalize on and their defenders made some nice plays to break up some potential scoring chances.  To come away with a tie on the road against a top four team in the country should serve as a confidence boast for our team heading into tomorrow's game and the rest of the season."
After a scoreless first period, Clarkson opened the scoring at 6:54 in the second period. Junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) scored off a pass from junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI). It was the 14th goal of the season for Mercer and the 14th helper for MacAulay.
 
Just three minutes later, Karley Sylvester scored on the power play off a Brittany Asserman pass to tie the game up. Heading into the third period, the game would remain tied at one.
 
Through the third period and the five minute overtime, neither team was able to score a goal to put them ahead.

Wisconsin's Ann-Renee Desbiens had 13 saves.  The Knights were 0 for 4 on power plays, while the Badgers were 1 for 4 on man-advantage opportunities.
 
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at 1:07.
