Knights Are Shut Out at 4th-Ranked Wisconsin

Box Score
A hat trick from freshman Annie Pankowski was too much to overcome for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team as the Golden Knights fell to the 4th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers 4-0 before a crowd of 1,954 at La Bahn Arena in Madisonon on Sunday afternoon.

Clarkson, ranked 7th/8th in last week's national polls, is now 15-7-3 overall, while Wisconsin has a 19-4-3 record.

"It was great having the opportunity to come out and play a quality team like Wisconsin with our last set of out of conference games," stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers.  "Our players, especially the younger players, should be able to use this weekend as an example of what playoff hockey is going to be like. If you want to make it to the NCAA tournament those are the types of teams you are going to see so it should serve as a great gauge for our team and we should know where we need to get to by the end of the year".

Desrosiers added, "I don't think we brought our best effort or played to our potential today and Wisconsin took advantage of that. Our team and coaching staff should use it as a lesson that if you want to compete against those top teams in the country every person on the bench needs to bring a good effort for a full 60 minutes.  Any let ups or lost focus, and good teams are going to make you pay."

For the second straight day, neither team was able to score in the first period.  Wisconsin would open the scoring 3:25 into the second period when Pankowski scored her first goal of the game off a pass from Brittany Ammerman. She would score again 11 minutes later to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.

Just 1:29 into the third period, Wisconsin added a third goal when Karley Sylvester scored.  Pankowski would finish off her hat trick at 3:45 to close out the scoring.

Clarkson freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) had a career-high 34 saves for the second straight game. Wisconsin held a 38-24 advantage in shots. The Golden Knights were 0-4 on power plays and killed both of Wisconsin's man-advantage opportunities.

Clarkson will return to ECAC Hockey play next weekend when they host Yale and Brown at Cheel Arena
