Clarkson Skates to Hard-Earned Tie at Cornell

Senior Jordan Boucher (St. Therese, QUE) scored two goals and freshman goaltender Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) enjoyed a solid night in the crease with a 28-save effort as the Clarkson University Hockey team gained a hard-earned point on the road with a 3-3 tie against 14th-ranked Cornell at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, NY.

The Golden Knights, who are 2-1-1 in the New Year, own an 11-9-4 overall record and remain tied with the Big Red for fifth place in ECAC Hockey at 6-4-2. Clarkson closes out a seven-game road swing with Saturday's game at Colgate.

Cornell (11-4-2, 6-2-2) outshot the Knights 31-16, holding the Green and Gold to their lowest shot total of the season. Clarkson, however, made the most of its limited opportunities to pick up its first league point at Lynah Rink since December 3, 2011.

The Knights were solid in specialty teams play, going 1-of-3 on the power play, while killing off four of Cornell's five man-advantage opportunities en route to snapping the Big Red's three-game winning streak.

Boucher opened the scoring with a great individual effort late in the first period. Boucher picked off a Cornell clearing pass, split the defense and tucked in his first goal of the night on a breakaway at 16:37.

The Big Red came back less than two minutes later with a goal on a 4-on-4 situation by Anthony Angello with 1:50 remaining in the period.

Clarkson grabbed a two-goal lead early in the middle frame with a pair of goals in a span of two minutes, 15 seconds. Boucher scored again at 6:45 for his ninth of the season with junior Sam Vigneault (Baie-Comeau, QUE) assisting.

The Knights connected for the fourth straight game on the power-play with junior assistant captain Brett Gervais (Corona, CA) finishing off assists from Vigneault and senior defenseman, captain James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) for his third goal of the season, and first in 12 games, at the nine-minute mark.

With another goal late in a period, this one coming off the stick of Trevor Yates at 16:30, the Big Red pulled to within one at 3-2 after 40 minutes of action.

Just 49 seconds into the third, Cornell tied the game with Yate's power-play tally.
