Knights Suffer First Loss in Almost Three Months

One of the longest unbeaten streaks in the 96-year history of the Clarkson University Hockey program ended on Saturday night as Dartmouth College knocked off the second-ranked Golden Knights 3-2 before 3,226 fans at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson, which suffered its first loss since October 28, stands at 18-4-2 overall with the 15-game (14-0-1) unbeaten stretch coming to a close. The Green and Gold remain in first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 10-1-1 league mark. Clarkson closes out a four-game home stand next weekend hosting Yale and Brown.

The Knights outshot Dartmouth (8-10-2, 6-6-1) 26-22, but struggled on the power play, going 0-of-3, including coming up empty on a five-minute major advantage midway through the third period. The Big Green went 1-of-3 on the power play, connecting for the game-winner for the only man-advantage marker of the night.

Clarkson never led against the Big Green as the visitors scored early in the contest. Dartmouth opened the scoring at 3:38 with a goal by Kevan Kilistoff during a scrum in front of sophomore goaltender Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN). 
 
Sophomore Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) put the Green and Gold on the scoreboard, taking a pass in the slot from senior captain Nic Pierog (Georgetown, ONT) and firing in a shot into a wide open net at  11:21 for his 10th goal of the season. Junior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) started the play with a hard shot on net from the blueline.
 
Just 52 seconds into the middle frame the Big Green went back on top as Matt Baker tipped in a pass across the crease by Alex Jasiek.
 
Sophomore Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) tied the contest entering the second-period intermission with his second goal of the weekend and third of the season. Egle took a pass along the left boards from linemate, freshman Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) and skated to the goal line where he lifted in a sharp angle shot off a backhand to make it 2-2 at 18:19. Senior defenseman Terrance Amorosa (Kirkland, QUE) also assisted.
 
Dartmouth, which already has impressive wins over Denver, Minnesota-Duluth and Quinnipiac, got a power-play goal from Baker at 6:47 of the third to come away with a key two points in ECAC Hockey play on the road.
 
Kielly finished with 19 saves.
