CU Volleyball Preview - at Bard/Vassar (10/5-6)

Back to its winning ways with a victory over St. Lawrence on Tuesday, the Clarkson University Volleyball team will try to edge its way back up to .500 in the Liberty League this weekend when the Golden Knights take on Bard College and Vassar College.

The Series vs. Bard: The Golden Knights have beaten the Raptors in all 14 meetings, including 13 since Bard was added to the Liberty League in 2011. Bard has reached 20 points only once in 39 sets against the Knights.

The Series vs. Vassar: With two regular-season wins against Clarkson in 2016, the Brewers ended a long losing streak versus the Knights. However, Clarkson won the post-season match up for the Liberty League title in 2016 and won both of its matches in 2017 to start a new winning streak. The Green and Gold are 21-13 all-time against Vassar.

Key Stats for Clarkson (8-7, 1-2 Liberty League): Junior Rachel Reusch enjoyed a big day against St. Lawrence on Tuesday, scoring 20 kills and six total blocks against the Saints. She is tied for sixth in NCAA Division III with 25 solo blocks and is 17th overall with 1.12 blocks per set. Her average in blocks is higher than both the Bard and Vassar team totals and her 25 solo blocks are five more than the two teams combined. Reusch also ranks 23rd in the country in points per set (4.50 pps). Classmate Kate Isaksen ranks first nationally in total digs (465) and is second in digs per set (7.88 dps) while Clarkson's 21.59 digs per set is the third best figure in the country.

Key Stats for Bard (6-10, 0-2 Liberty League): The Raptors rank 29th in the country in aces per set (2.75 aps) and have 151 total in 2018. Maracela Talamantes leads the Liberty League in aces with 0.61 per set and she is closely followed by Jewel Smith's 0.58 aces per set. Talamantes also contributes a team-best 2.22 kills per set and Smith leads the team with 5.25 assists per set. Emily Anastasi averages 5.06 dis per set, but Bard doesn't offer much in the way of a block up front, producing 0.40 blocks per set.

Key Stats for Vassar (9-6, 1-1 Liberty League): With the return of Jane McLeod, the Brewers have a pair of outside hitters that can carry the team. McLeod is averaging 3.61 kills per set and Devan Gallagher produces 3.61 kills per set with both players hitting around .230. Annie MacMillan distributes the ball to her two outsides frequently, scoring 10.28 assists per set, a figure that is 23rd in Division III. Anna Zucchero averages 5.17 digs per set, helping the Brewers to the number-two figure in the Liberty League in that category (18.35 dps).
