Golden Knights Split on First Day at Cal Lu Fornia Tournament

Thousand Oaks, CA - Savannah Peters clearly felt comfortable in her hometown on Friday evening, as the senior middle hitter/rightside of the Clarkson University Volleyball team enjoyed a breakout match in the second contest of the night, delivering 10 kills with no errors in 15 swings in a three-set sweep of Whittier College to help the Golden Knights salvage a split on the first day of the Cal Lu Fornia Tournament, hosted by California Lutheran University.

The Golden Knights moved to 3-2 on the season, dropping their opener to Mary Hardin-Baylor (25-14, 21-25, 25-14, 25-21) but beating Whittier in three straight (25-23, 25-16, 25-19). Clarkson will face a pair of California teams on Saturday, taking on Pomona-Pitzer and California Lutheran.

In the first match of the day, Kate Isaksen recorded her fifth career 40-dig performance by notching that number exactly against the Crusaders. Rachel Reusch led the offense with 12 kills and also chipped in six total blocks. Peters also had six total blocks and Gillian Kurtic chipped in five block assists. Maddie Bredehoeft contributed nine kills and 15 digs and Amanda Collins ran the offense with 28 assists.

In the three-set nightcap against the Poets, Peters hit .667 (10-0-15) with three blocks while Bredehoeft and Reusch produced 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Isaksen again led the defense with 36 digs. Amanda Collins had a double-double thanks to 35 assists and 14 digs and Meghan Edmund also played well on defense with 12 digs.
