All Five Starters in Double Figures for Knights Win Over SLU

Potsdam, NY - Graduate student Molly Stewart put up a solid line across the board with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team earned a 75-51 win over St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 1-1 while the Saints opened the season with the defeat. Clarkson is scheduled to play Bryant & Stratton (Syracuse) some time next week.

Both teams ran out depleted rosters for various reasons as only 15 players were in uniform for the two teams combined. With its guard-heavy rotation, Clarkson was able to use its speed and 3-point shooting throughout the game to get solid looks on both the perimeter and with cuts to the basket. The Knights raced out to an 8-0 lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Hannah Earl and Carly Assimon, but the lead evaporated as St. Lawrence scored the next 11 points. Clarkson responded with another run of its own, rattling off 12 straight points, again utilizing the 3-point line with long-range shots from Assimon and Rachel Marion.

The second quarter did not see the same kind of runs, as Clarkson out produced the Saints by a 22-6 margin, shooting 8-for-17 from the floor while holding the Saints to just three made baskets in the quarter. That significant advantage helped Clarkson head to the locker room with a healthy 23 point lead at the half.

The third quarter opened with St. Lawrence pulling back within 19 on two occasions, but Clarkson made timely shots to return the lead back into the mid-20s and was never threatened by a legitimate comeback for the remainder of the game, cruising to a 24-point win.

All five of Clarkson's starters finished in double figures, led by Molly Stewart's 16 points. Hannah Earl recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Carly Assimon finished with 13 points and five assists.

Sierra Sanson shot 5-for-8 from the floor for a team-high 12 points for the Saints. Cam Roberts grabbed 10 rebounds for St. Lawrence.
