Twelve Contribute in Clarkson's Easy Win Over NVU-Johnson

Potsdam, NY – A balanced attack that saw every player on the roster see at least 12 minutes of playing time, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team cruised to a 79-42 victory over NVU-Johnson on Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 3-2 on the season while the Badgers dropped to 0-6. Clarkson will take on the University of Rochester on Sunday afternoon at Blue Cross Arena.

In the opening minutes, the Badgers were able to stick with the Knights, taking a couple of early leads including a banked in 3-pointer by Devyn Thompson that made it 7-6. However, Clarkson ended the quarter with a 12-0 run which included 3-pointers from Tess Maline and Mariah Benavides. Clarkson opened the second with 11 more points to make it a 23-0 run, with three more 3-point plays, including a beyond the arc three and a layup-and-one version from Meredith James. NVU-Johnson tightened up their offense and reduced their turnovers down the stretch of the second quarter and played mostly even over the final few minutes of the period.

Clarkson forced the Badgers into 24 first-half turnovers, created by 13 steals with nine different players recording at least one in the first 20 minutes. Hannah Earl had 10 points in the first half, shooting 4-for-5 from the floor.

The Badgers opened the second half struggling with ball control, but Clarkson couldn't take advantage at the start. However, the Knights figured things out offensively and ended the quarter on a 23-4 run, squashing any hope of a comeback by the Badgers. In the fourth the Knights were on cruise control as the margin expanded to as many as 42 and dropped to as few as 34, before finally settling at 37.

Hannah Earl came one rebound short of a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds while also chipping in six steals. Freshmen Tess Maline and Meredith James both came off the bench to score 11 points in fewer than 13 minutes apiece. Emma Buonanno also added in nine points and three steals. The Badgers were led by Ellery Kiefer, who had 20 points on 5-for-15 shooting and a 9-for-12 effort from the free throw line, adding in 12 boards.
