CU Volleyball Preview - vs. SUNY Geneseo/Ithaca (10/28-29)

Only one weekend remains in the regular-season for the Clarkson University Volleyball team as the Golden Knights will celebrate the four senior members of the team with matches against SUNY Geneseo and Ithaca College.

Saturday's match against the Bombers will decide the Liberty League regular-season title and which team will host the conference tournament.

The Series vs. Geneseo: Clarkson is just 5-11 all-time against Geneseo, but the Golden Knights have won the last four meetings dating back to 2013, including a five-set victory in 2018 and a four-setter in 2019.

The Series vs. Ithaca: The top two teams in the Liberty League since the Bombers joined the conference in 2017, Clarkson has struggled against the Bombers during the Liberty League conference schedule only to best them in the post-season. The Bombers are 4-1 against Clarkson dating in regular-season contests dating back to 2016, but Clarkson is 6-0 in post-season games since 2015, ending Ithaca's season in both 2015 and 2019.

Key Stats for Clarkson (14-9, 7-0 Liberty League): Allyson Treichel hit .548 last weekend in three matches and is now hitting .297 overall, which ranks third in the Liberty League, while that number jumps to .368 in conference matches. Treichel (2.58 kills per set), Kristin Werdine (2.92 kps), and Sara Galante (2.45 kps) have been providing ample offense as late, and Galante ranks eighth in the league in hitting percentage .311 when only taking conference matches into consideration. Freshman Tess Sorel is also hitting .351 in league games. Overall, the Knights have upped their game in conference situations, hitting .282 with 3.65 aces per set.

Key Stats for SUNY Geneseo (11-9, 6-3 SUNYAC): The Knights lead the SUNYAC in blocks per set at 2.25 and have three of the top five in the conference in that category in Madison Gamberg, Jackie Borland, and Alisiana Muscoreil. Linda Rossi leads the team on offense with 2.69 kills per set while also chipping in 2.36 digs per set. Emily Haber has the top figure in the SUNYAC in digs per set, averaging 5.29 per game, about half a dig better than the next student-athlete.

Key Stats for William Smith (14-5, 5-2 Liberty League): The Herons have already played Clarkson this year, but are back for a non-league match against Geneseo on Friday before heading to St. Lawrence for their final conference match of the season on Saturday. William Smith is locked into the Liberty League postseason and will host a first-round contest no matter the outcome against St. Lawrence on Saturday. Malya Sayre leads the team with 3.19 kills per set, while Liza Telepova averages 2.60 kills and 0.52 blocks per set with a .260 hitting percentage. Hope Von Dohlen also contributes 2.52 kills per set. Elaina Wamhoff has the top figure in the Liberty League in assists per set at 9.50 per game.

Key Stats for Ithaca (20-4, 6-0 Liberty League): The Bombers are hitting .361 as a team against league opponents heading into their tilt with St. Lawrence on Friday. Both Jennifer Pitts (.490) and Aleka Darko (.427) own gaudy hitting percentages in league matches, with Darko also ranking sixth overall in hitting (.263). Darko has the top figure in the conference in blocks per set (0.90) with an impressive 36 solo blocks and 42 block assists. Faith Sabatier (2.83 kps), Camryn O'Leary (2.37 kps), and Darko (2.29 kps) are the top targets on offense for Maddie Cox (8.44 assists per set). Ithaca is strong on serve receive with a .912 team figure.
