Dumont Tosses in 21 in Loss to Skidmore

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Cassidy Dumont scored a season-high 21 points for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights' run of fourth-quarter magic came to an end on Friday as the Green and Gold fell to Skidmore, 65-53, in Liberty League action at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights saw their mark fall to 2-2 and 0-1 in conference games while Skidmore edged up to 3-1 and 1-0. Clarkson will take on Union College on Saturday afternoon.

In the opening minutes, the Knights fell back by seven, but quickly tied the game when Elaina Porter hit a jumper at the 5:05 mark. However, Skidmore got a spark off the bench from Andi Levitz near the end of the quarter, as she hit a pair of 3-pointers late to help the Thoroughbreds build a 10-point advantage at the end of the period. Clarkson rallied at the start of the second with 3-pointers from both Mariah Benavides and Cassidy Dumont, and the Knights pulled to within three when Bella Doyle converted in the lane near the midway point of the period. Near the end of the second, Cassidy Dumont knocked down a pair of free throws to put Clarkson within one, only to see a last second shot from Skidmore put the margin at three at the break.

The tail end of the second was as close as Clarkson would get. Although the game was tight for most of the third period, again late 3-pointers from Becca Horger and Andi Levitz tiled the momentum back towards Skidmore as a six-point margin doubled to 12 through 30 minutes. On three occasions in the fourth, the Knights would draw within seven, and when Doyle again made a basket inside with less than three minutes to go, Clarkson was down by just six. From there, Amelia Medolla took over, scoring seven of her nine points in the waning moments as Skidmore rebuilt its advantage to double figures to come away with the win.

Dumont hit five of her nine 3-point field goal attempts to score a game-high 21, while Elaina Porter chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. Bella Doyle was again close to a double-double, recording nine points and nine boards.

For Skidmore, Levitz finished with 14 points, shooting 4-for-10 from beyond the arc. Medolla, Sarah Chambers, and Madison Meyer all finished with nine points for the Thoroughbreds.
