Canton, NY – Running its unbeaten streak to six games, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team picked up another non-league win, shutting out SUNY Canton 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 5-0-1 overall, just the second time in program history that the Green and Gold are unbeaten in the first six games of a season (2015, 6-0). SUNY Canton dropped to 0-4 on the season. Clarkson continues its run of non-conference games to open the year, heading to Oswego State for a Saturday afternoon tilt this weekend.

It took little time for the Golden Knights to get on the scoreboard, as the Kangaroos were put in the hole in just the fourth minute of the game. Clarkson carried the ball deep down the right sideline, and a cross was sent in front, but was punched away near the top of the 18. Maddie Lopol was able to keep the ball from being cleared any further and sent a pass to Lillian Gillett near the top of the six at the very far left of the penalty area. Gillett then crossed the ball back in front to Sarah Kohls, where the senior knocked the ball in at 3:06 for a 1-0 Clarkson advantage, her fifth goal of the year.

Despite numerous more opportunities, the Golden Knights could not find the back of the net for another 50-plus minutes. Clarkson's shots either ended up wide or stopped by Canton's Skylar Williams. The drought ended in the 57th minute as the play developed quickly in transition. After a quick pass from the Clarkson defensive end found Lillian Gillett near midfield, Gillett passed the ball to Arin Bates near the right sideline. Bates then carried the ball forward and passed the ball into the corner to Sarah Kohls. Bates then filled the empty space in the middle as two Canton defenders began to close on Kohls, and the quick cross found Bates' left foot for a goal from about 10 yards out at 56:06.

Exactly six minutes later the Knights would score again, as a goal kick never made its way out of the Canton defensive zone. The ball rattled around just inside and outside the penalty area after a few deflections in close, but Angelina Fahrenkrug was able to step into the ball almost in stride and hit a hard shot from the penalty kick hash mark that skimmed the bottom of the crossbar and in.

Late in the contest, the Knights tacked on one more goal for good measure. Julia Tylar cleared the Clarkson end with a pass down the left sideline to Haley Archambault, who carried the ball an extra 30 yards and sent a cross to Aspen Tlapa. Right before two Canton players could come clear the ball, Tlapa was able to tap the ball past Skylar Williams from the six into the far right corner.

Clarkson finished with a 40-1 advantage in shots, including a 21-0 lead in shots on goal. The Knights also held an 11-0 advantage in corner kick chances. Williams made 17 saves and kept the game close for nearly 60 minutes, while Molly DiCaprio earned a shutout without having to make a stop.
