Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Knights' Offense Limited in 11-5 Loss to Union

Potsdam, NY – Limited to just one goal in the second half, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team was unable to keep pace with Union College's strong final push as the Golden Knights fell 11-5 to the Dutchwomen in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon at Hantz Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 7-6 overall and 2-4 in conference games, while Union edged back over .500 at 3-2 in league games and 7-3 overall. Clarkson is at University of Rochester next Saturday as the Knights begin a stretch of three games on the road.

Falling behind by two goals in the early going, Madelynn Barnum got the Knights on the scoreboard less than six minutes into the game. However, that was the lone goal for Clarkson in the first quarter as each team was fairly limited on offense at the start. Barnum scored two goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter, including a player-down goal at 13:38, tying the game 3-3. The two teams were tied five minutes later when Hailey Millington scored, but two goals down the stretch from Katie Julien and Drew Charlton gave Union a 6-4 lead at the break.

Both teams' defenses were strong in the third quarter, with the lone goal coming out of Sydney Nakas's stick while the Knights were up a player. With just 11 goals combined through 45 minutes, it appeared as if just a handful of goals could prove to be the turning point for either team, but Union tallied three times in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to turn a one-goal game into a four-goal margin for the visitors. Clarkson had its chances, but was unable to draw closer, and the Dutchwomen picked up two insurance goals down the stretch for the win.

Madelynn Barnum scored three goals for the Knights, and Sydney Nakas and Hailey Millington each added a goal, with the latter also winning six draw controls. Julia Patterson caused four turnovers and also snagged three groundballs.

For Union, Sydney McParlton scored five points on four goals and an assist, and Drew Charlton added four points with three goals and one helper. Greta Maurer also added a pair of goals, three groundballs, and five draws.

Clarkson finished with a 29-24 edge in shots, a 17-16 lead in shots on goal, a 14-12 advantage in groundballs, and an 11-9 lead in draws. Sydney Widlitz made 12 saves in the Union crease, and Jennaca McGill made five stops for the Knights.
