The 2022-23 athletics season saw some new achievements, past achievements honored, and the continued success of our athletes on and off the field of play. 12 teams qualified for post season play, 24 Knights received All Liberty League Honors, 6 Knights received All ECAC Honors, one coaching staff was named "Liberty League Staff of the Year", and another coach got his 400th career win! 187 Athletes were named All Academic in their league. We enshrined 9 Golden Knights into our Hall of Fame and 8 Golden Knights won medals at a World Championships.
Clarkson Men's Soccer achieved first national-ranking in over two decades and held the distinction of being the last team in all of Division III to allow a goal (seven straight shutouts). Christian Silvano selected Liberty League Second-Team All-Star and Carter Kladstrup received Liberty League Honorable Mention.
Guided by, the Liberty League Co-Coaching Staff of the Year, Head Coach Zac Shaw and Assistant Rachel Kingston, the Women's Soccer team reached Liberty League Tournament for just second time in program history and advanced to Liberty League Semifinals for first time in program history. Sarah Kohls was selected as United Soccer Coaches All-Region (only third player ever) and Liberty League First Team All Star. Emily Colby & Molly DiCaprio were both named Liberty League Second Team All Stars, while Maddie Lopol was named Liberty League Honorable Mention.
The Golden Knights Volleyball team advanced to Liberty League Final for the 11th straight year. Setter Isabelle Crow was named AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, AVCA All-Region, & Liberty League First-Team, Outside hitter Kristin Werdine chosen AVCA All-Region and Liberty League Second-Team. Libero Emma Baxter was selected Liberty League First-Team All Star, along with Allyson Treichel being named Liberty League Second-Team All Star.
The Women's Cross Country placed 19th at NCAA Mideast Regional, while the Men's Cross Country placed 16th at NCAA Mideast Regional. Eric Nowak and Nathalie Chateauneuf were the top finishers for Clarkson at the Liberty League Championships.
The Nordic Ski team earned the Combined Title at USCSA Nationals (Men 3rd/Women 6th), Ava Schieffert was the top finisher for the women at 14th and Kai Richter placed 10th for the men.
The Alpine Knights qualified for USCSA Nationals, where the Men finished tied for 4th and the Women 16th. Evan Wetzel (Alpine) was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 (At-Large).
The Women's Basketball Team's Cassidy Dumont was named the Region 3 D3hoops.com Second-Team All Star and a Liberty League First Team All Star.
Men's Basketball's Blake Gearhart earned All Liberty League Honorable Mention, while eclipsing the 1000 career point mark.
The Knights Swim and Dive team saw several school records fall this season. At the Liberty League Championships, Knights swimmers broke 7 team records as the Knights went on to finish 6th for the Men and 8th for the Women.
The Men's Hockey Team were the 2023 Kwik Trip Holiday Classic Champions after defeating Wisconsin. Mathieu Gosselin, Noah Beck, and Ayrton Martino were named ECAC Third Team All Star. Former Golden Knight, Nico Sturm won Silver with Team Germany at the 2023 World Championships.
The Women's Hockey team was also well decorated at the 2023 World Championships. Current Golden Knight, Haley Winn and former Knight, Sav Harmon won Gold with Team USA. 4 former Knights won silver with Team Canada and another won Bronze with Team Czechia. Ranked all season in the top 10 nationally, the Knights were the ECAC Tournament Runner Up and earned their 11th NCAA Tournament Appearance, while also capturing the 2022 Adirondack Ice Breaker Championship. Nicole Gosling was named an ECAC 2nd Team All Star, while Gabrielle David and Haley Winn were selected as ECAC 3rd Team All Stars.
The Men's Lacrosse qualified for Liberty League Playoffs, where they pushed SLU to overtime. Bryan Penny and Matt Szwagulinski were both named US Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III All-American Honorable Mention. Bryan Penny was also selected for North/South Senior All-Star Game and named All Liberty League First Team. Matt Szwagulinski was also recognized as All-Liberty League Second Team, while Matt Reilly and Sebastian Geiger were All-Liberty League Honorable Mention.
Women's Lacrosse had 4 players recognized with post season awards. Madelynn Barnum was named (IWLCA) All-Region Second-Team (Empire Region) and All Liberty League First Team. Rlyee Ganter was named All-Liberty League Second Team and Julia Lavarnway and Lauren Shanahan were All-Liberty League Honorable Mention.
Clarkson's Golf Team competed at the Liberty League Championships at Turning Stone, were Casey Ditzel finished 20th. Andrew Palmatier was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week of 9/26 for his play at the Oswego Fall Golf Invitational.
The Golden Knights Softball team qualified for Liberty League Playoffs with catcher Zoey Kobach being named NFCA Region III All-Region Second-Team and a Liberty League First-Team All-Star. Pitcher Devin Fitzpatrick was also named a Liberty League First-Team All-Star, while Bridget Twaits and Emma Sabourin were both named Liberty League Second Team All-Stars.
The Clarkson Baseball team qualified for Liberty League Playoffs for the 2nd straight season. A milestone win came when the Knights beat Emerson 3-2 giving Coach Kane his 400th career win. DH Colby Brouillette was honored as a Liberty League First-Team All-Star.
The Clarkson Athletics Hall of Fame inducted their first class since 2017 when nine new members were enshrined. The Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2023 was Sara Artus (Volleyball), Tim Barcomb (Baseball), Robert "Soupy" Campbell (Benefactor), Dan Gasbarre (Men's Soccer), David Kinney (Baseball), Bill O'Flaherty (Hockey, Coach, & Administrator), Mike Smith (Hockey), Mel Tomalty (Hockey & Lacrosse), and Joe Zebrowski (Lacrosse).
Clarkson teams will be releasing their schedules on their websites as they become finalized. The Women's Soccer team will open home Athletic Competition on September 1st when they host DeSales University.
