CU Cross Country Preview - at Cross Country-Only Championships (10/18)

Three events remain on the docket for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, with the first coming this weekend in the Cross Country-Only Championships, held annually at Seneca Lake State Park.

The Course

The History: Clarkson's men have won the team title at the CCOC (which is limited to teams without track and field programs at their respective institutions) seven straight years and 13 times overall. Last year, Drew Reigelsperger became the ninth different Clarkson runner on the men's side to win an individual title, crossing the line in 26:45.0. He will be attempting to become Clarkson's third runner with multiple CCOC titles, potentially joining the likes of Alex Benway and Kevin Cronin.

The Golden Knights' women have won seven titles over the years with eight winners. The most recent Clarkson runner to win the women's race is Hannah Yorkey, who had the top time (23:51.6) in 2021, joining Cronin to give Clarkson winners in both races.

The Team: In addition to Reigelsperger, Clarkson had five other returning runners who placed inside the top 15 at last year's event. Frank Consolazio was second (26:55.4) and James Lynch (28:01.7) was seventh, while Evan Baird (ninth), Kaleb Swartley (12th) and Caleb Tribotte (13th) ended up outside the team scoring but still placed highly. Clarkson's women were without Gianna Capoccia last year as Alexandra Simon (second) and Skylar Francis (fourth) had the top times for the Knights. Capoccia placed fifth in the 2023 race (among 52 runners) with a time of 25:10.4. She has posted three sub-25 minute times in her time at Clarkson.
