Reigelsperger and Capoccia Headline Knights at NCAA Mideast Regionals

Canton, NY – Junior Drew Reigelsperger and graduate student Gianna Capoccia were the top runners for the Clarkson University Cross Country team, as the Golden Knights closed out their season at the NCAA Mideast Regionals, hosted by St. Lawrence University on the Ronald C. Hoffman Cross Country Course.

The Golden Knights' men finished in the middle of the pack, placing 14th out of 26 teams in the regional with 413 points. On the women's side, the Golden Knights took 24th out of 25 teams with 673 points.

Reigelsperger started off strong, ranking in the top 25 after the first mile of the race, but he slowly descended down the leaderboard in a race loaded with competitors, eventually finishing 63rd out of 179 runners with a time of 27 minutes, 9.7 seconds over the course of 8000 meters. Sophomore James Lynch was consistent in his spot for most of the race, eventually ending up in 66th with a time of 27:13.4. Classmate Matthew Clarner crossed the line roughly 20 seconds later at 27:34.4, taking the 86th spot to finish in the top half of the runners. Spencer Reese closed out his run in 93rd with a time of 27:42.9 and then Frank Consolazio was 105th to round out the team's scoring five, finishing in 28:04.6. Alternate scorers Jack Zieber (28:16.4) and Finley Knappe (28:56.1) placed 114th and 129th, respectively.

For the women, Gianna Capoccia was the top runner for the Golden Knights, taking 117th out of a field of 186 runners with a time of 25:49.4 over the 6000-meter course. Although she finished 30 seconds later, Janneke Baks was the next across the line for the Knights but only six spots beneath Capoccia in 123rd overall with a time of 26:19.5. Skylar Francis was the third runner for the Green and Gold, placing 143rd in 27:07.2. First-year collegians Meagan Speizer and Madeline Bresnan rounded out Clarkson's scoring five, as Speizer took 153rd in 27:44.3 and Bresnan took 158th in 30:18.9. Alternate scorers Meilin Lamanna (30:26.8) and Madison Witt (35:08.4), took 174th and 181st, respectively.
