Striving for the University's first-ever NCAA National Championship in any sport, the Clarkson Women's Hockey team will battle two-time defending National Champion University of Minnesota in the 2014 Frozen Four Championship game on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who defeated Mercyhurst 5-1 in Friday's semifinal game, will face off against the Golden Gophers at 3:00 p.m. at the High Points Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center on the campus of Quinnipiac University. Minnesota (38-1-1) advances for their third consecutive showing in the national title game after defeating Wisconsin 5-3 in the other semifinal contest. The Knights and Minnesota are the only two teams in Division I women's hockey to reach the 30-win mark this season, and this is the first time Clarkson has ever won more than 28 games.

The Green and Gold stand at 30-5-5 overall and won the ECAC Hockey regular season title with a 16-2-4 conference mark. The Knights are 5-1 in postseason action this year with their only playoff blemish being a 1-0 loss to Cornell in the ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship game on March 9 at Cheel Arena.

Minnesota enters the national championship game as back-to-back national champions and is going for its sixth national championship in program history (2000, 2004, 2005, 2012, 2013). The Gophers are on a 26-game unbeaten streak (25-0-1).

Game Notes:
• Sunday will be the first time for a Golden Knight team to compete for a national championship since the Clarkson Men's Hockey team finished as runners-up to Cornell in 1970.
• Senior Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) was named the winner of the 2014 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the top player in women's Division I ice hockey. She is second in the country in points with 64, and third in assists with 36. The First Team All American leads the country with nine power-play goals.
• Senior Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) has only allowed three goals in six postseason games this season, including three shutouts. Her 1.02 goals-against average leads the nation, along with her 14 shutouts. • Clarkson boasts the second best scoring offense with 3.62 goals per games, and the best scoring defense, only allowing 1.05 goals per contest. The Knights also have the best penalty kill in the country, denying 92.9% of opponent's opportunities.
• Clarkson's senior class is undefeated at High Point Solutions Arena, winning five games by a combined score of 18-6.
• Sophomore defenseman Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) had three career goals in 77 games before scoring the tying goal in Friday's win against Mercyhurst. She added an assist for her third career two-point game.
• The Knights are 28-0-4 when scoring first, and have outshot their opponents in 36 of 40 games.
• Clarkson put together a 19-game unbeaten streak (16-0-3) from December 7th to March 8th. The Knights have lost only one game in 2014, a 1-0 defeat to Cornell in the ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship game on March 9.
• Friday's win marked the first time the Knights won a game while trailing after the first period. Clarkson had been 0-5-0 on the season prior to Friday's semifinal victory.
• Clarkson's Class of 2014 opened their NCAA careers with a pair of games against Minnesota at Cheel Arena, losing 5-0 and 3-0 on October 1-2, 2010.
• Sophomore defenseman Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT), who has missed the past three games with an injury, leads all defenders with 50 points, seven more than the next highest total. A Top 10 Finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, she is also tied with Rattray for third in the nation with 36 assists.
