Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Knights Skate By Northeastern 5-1

With the graduation loss of two of the leading scorers in program history, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team expected the offense to take some time to realize its potential in 2017-18. Well it looks like the Golden Knights' growing pains lasted one game.

Clarkson, which skated to a 1-1 tie against 8th-ranked Northeastern in Boston on Friday night, came through with a 5-1 victory over the Huskies on Saturday afternoon in Matthews Arena.

As good as the offense was, senior Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) was even better. Tiley followed up Friday's season-opening 31-save effort with 24 stops in Saturday's win.

Five different Golden Knights scored goals and 10 players recorded at least a point.

"Today was a great all around game for us," stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "Our compete level was much better and we were far more aggressive than we were yesterday. We did a good job making a few adjustments we needed to today which is a great sign this early in the season. We learned a lot from Friday's game and were able to apply it tonight. Overall we are pretty happy with the results this weekend against a very good Northeastern team".

Clarkson led throughout the game taking a 1-0 first-period lead on sophomore Michaela Pejzlova's (Pardubice, Czech Rep.) goal just 3:45 after the opening faceoff.

The defending national Champions blew the game open midway through the middle frame with three goals in a span of 2:05. Junior Rhyen McGill (Whitby, ONT), who missed Friday's game nursing an injury, started the burst with the eventual game-winner at 8:33. Senior captain Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL) tallied on the power play at 9:58, followed by a goal from freshman Michaela Boyle (Reading, MA) at 10:38.

With one minute left in the second period, Northeastern's Skylar Fontaine spoiled Tiley's shutout bid for the Huskie's lone score on the day.

Freshman Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) got that back with one second left in the stanza for her second point of the weekend.

Junior Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT), who scored the Knights' goal in Friday's tie, picked up two assists in the win. Sophomore defenseman Ella Shelton (Ingersol, ONT) also set up two goals.

The Huskies outshot Clarkson 25-25, but the Knights held a 12-5 advantage in the scoreless third period.

Clarkson was 2-of-5 on the power play and killed off five of Northeastern's six man-advantage opportunities.

The Knights, who are unbeaten in their last 18 games (16-0-2) dating back to last January 21, opened the home portion of the season next weekend hosting Bemidji State at Cheel Arena.
