The Knights and Saints faced off for the second time this season in game one of a two game series this weekend.
Clarkson would jump out to a lead just 1:41 into the game, when
Olivia Hanson would score with help from
Sara Swiderski and
Darcie Lappan. The Saints would answer back at 11:24 and 13:46 when Julia Gosling would score an even strength and power play goal.
In the 2nd period, the Knights would tie the game at 5:33 when
Darcie Lappan would score from
Gabrielle David and
Stephanie Markowski. Late in the period, the Knights would take 2 penalties 7 seconds apart which led to a power play goal from Chloe Puddifant to put the Saints back up by 1 going into the 2nd intermission.
The Knights came out with good pressure to start the 3rd and it paid off with goals from David ad 3:02 and then a power play goal by
Nicole Gosling at 5:11.
SLU would tie the game with under 5 minutes to go when Abby Hustler was able to score with an assist to Julia Gosling and Katina Duscio.
Sixty minutes wouldn't do it, so the teams headed to overtime for the first time since Dec. 2 of 2021.
Gretchen Branton would be the hero for the Knights as she won a puck battle with Julia Gosling in the offensive zone and attacked the net, her wrist shot finding the back of the net at 2:05 of OT.
Michelle Pasiechnyk would make 27 saves in goal for the Knights to get her 8th win on the season.
The Knights will travel to Appleton on Saturday for a 2pm faceoff to finish off this non-league set of games.
