The Golden Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead but were unable to hold on and dropped a 2-1 decision to Colgate at Cheel Arena on Friday night. The loss flip flops Clarkson and Colgate in the standings, so as the race tightens up for home ice in the ECAC playoffs, Clarkson will now need help from SLU if they are going to host next weekend.
Stephanie Markowski got the Knights on the board with her own rebound as the the first period came to a close. The Knights kept the lead until 8:26 of the second period when Rosy Demers tied it for the Raiders. Just before that goal, Clarkson had a near miss as the puck landed on the goal line but couldn't clear.
In the third period Colgate got that puck luck that eluded Clarkson in the second as a shot trickled up and over
Michelle Pasiechnyk, to give Colgate the lead. Clarkson poured on the pressure in the third out shooing Colgate 18-4, and had a power play late, but could not solve Hannah Murphy for the equalizer.
Clarkson has a variety of scenarios that can still gain them home ice in the playoffs. In the event that Clarkson and Colgate are tied the tie break will be determined based on the following tiebreakers (listed in order of application) shall be used to determine seeding. (Note: Only League games apply):
Comparison of points attained in games among tied teams (head to head). Clarkson and Colgate split
Wins (regulation and overtime). Colgate 15 and Clarkson 13 (as of Friday night)
Tomorrow is Senior Day at Cheel for the 5 graduating seniors.
