Gosling scores 2nd straight OT winner to lift Knights past Quinnipiac

Nicole Gosling Scores Her Second Straight Overtime Game Winner As Knights Stun #8 Quinnipiac
Feb. 10, 2024
Nicole Gosling struck again in overtime in Saturday's 2-1 win over Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT. Gosling's second overtime game winning goal this weekend as the Golden Knights capped off the weekend sweep.

The win moves Clarkson to 27-3-2 this season, 15-3-1 in ECAC play. They have won nine games over opponents ranked in the top ten in the nation, 15 wins against ranked teams. The four point weekend keeps Clarkson in second place in the ECAC standings, trailing Colgate by 3.5 points entering the final weekend of the regular season.

For the second straight night, the Golden Knights skated to a scoreless first period. Michelle Pasiechnyk made eight saves as her team held a slight 10-8 shot advantage.

Quinnipiac took a pair of penalties in the second period. Brooke McQuigge had the best opportunity on the first opportunity, loose at the top of the crease but was stopped by Bobcat netminder Logan Angers. The Knights scored the first goal of the game on their second try as Haley Winn shot from the blue line through traffic in front of the goal to take a 1-0 lead at 9:05.

The Golden Knights went short handed immediately after play resumed. Pasiechnyk stopped four shots during the power play, including a highlight reel save as she sprawled into a split and was able to cover the puck. The Bobcats equalized on their ensuing rush after the power play expired, tying the game at 10:50.

Quinnipiac took a penalty with 17.6 seconds remaining in the period. Alexie Guay had a chance in the final seconds, but her shot went wide as time expired. Shots in the second period were 16-13 in favor of Clarkson, Pasiechnyk made 12 saves.

The Golden Knights held the Bobcats without a shot over the first eight minutes of the third period. Keira Hurry was sent to the box for roughing, and Pasiechnyk made a trio of mindblowing saves leaving Bobcats announcer Phil Guibileo describing her play as "octopus-like" and she kept the game tied. Bogden took a cross checking call that sent Clarkson shorthanded again, giving the Bobcats a 25 second 5-on-3 while Hurry's time expired. The Knights successfully killed both penalties. Clarkson went shorthanded again on a body checking call against Dominique Petrie with 3:21 remaining in regulation. The Knights forced pressure in the final minute after getting back to 5-on-5, drawing a penalty with 20 seconds.

For the second straight night, the result required overtime. The Knights set up their power play, firing five more shots that were stopped by Angers. The overtime period got its first stoppage with 2:10 remaining, sending the game to 3-on-3. As the game entered the final minute of overtime, the Knights gained the offensive zone. Winning a battle along the boards, Brooke McQuigge got the puck up top for Nicole Gosling who scored her second game overtime winning goal of the weekend!

The team will return home for the final weekend of the regular season, hosting Dartmouth and Harvard. Saturday, Feb. 17, the Knights will honor their senior and graduate students during their "Senior Day" celebration. Their next game is Friday, Feb. 16, against Dartmouth. Puck drop is at 6:00 PM.
