Knights Tie Season High With 9 Goals In Win Over Dartmouth
Clarkson's offense scored 31 seconds into the game as
Dominique Petrie hit career point 100, then added eight more in a 9-0 shutout win.
Julia Minotti picked up her fifth shutout this season in her ninth start, stopping all nine shots against her. The Knights' special teams were excellent, scoring four power play goals on five chances and stopping both Dartmouth power plays.
Â
With Colgate's loss to Yale, the Golden Knights are still alive with a chance at the top seed in the ECAC. Clarkson is just 0.5 points behind the Raiders in second entering the final day of the regular season.Â
Â
The Knights have clinched a first round bye and home ice in the ECAC Quarterfinal. They are two wins away from the sixth 30-win season in program history. "I think this group comes to work everyday, and that's what makes it fun on the weekends… That's part of why we have some many people this season reaching those milestones because we are able to push each other everyday, and sometimes have practices that are tougher than games," said Assistant Coach
Tony Maci. "I'm really proud of the efforts and having people step up. Even tonight, you have some players who may not have been able to get as much ice time in other games, but really stepped up today and were able to have special performances."
Â
Â
Petrie played alongside Lappan and
Laurence Frenette, but got the start with her normal line Cherkowski and
Brooke McQuigge. "We were joking around saying let's just go out and score on the first shift, and it took a lucky bounce and was able to bury it early," she said after the game. "It feels great to get that 100 point monkey off the back."
Â
Gosling opened the second period scoring on the power play, assisted by
Haley Winn and Guay. Guay got her third assist of the game 90 seconds later as
Andie Proulx scored her first goal of the season.
Â
In the third period, the Knights scored quickly on the power play as Lappan scored her fourth goal of the season against Dartmouth, and her first of the game 1:18 into the period assisted by Petrie and
Sara Swiderski. Midway through the period, Proulx scored again assisted by Bailee Kirwan and
Kirstyn McQuigge. Within two minutes, the Knights scored their fourth power play goal. Winn from
Brooke McQuigge and Cherkowski at 11:33. In the final seconds of regulation, Bogden tied a career high, scoring her second goal of the game with 10 seconds left, assisted by
Kirstyn McQuigge and
Nicole Gosling.
Â
Nine Golden Knights recorded multiple points, with four players having three points.
Brooke McQuigge and Gosling finished with one goal and two assists each, Guay and
Kirstyn McQuigge both had three assists. Proulx, Bogden, Winn, Petrie, and Cherkowski also had two points.
Â
"I think this is exactly what we needed," said Petrie. "Obviously we've been struggling a little bit to put the puck in the back of the net, but after tonight I think we really started humming and generating some good chances… a good start as we look forward to the playoffs and what is to come in the future."Â
Â
After the win, the Golden Knights are 28-3-2 this season, 17-3-1 in ECAC conference play. Saturday will be the last game in the regular season as the team looks forward to one week with no games before the ECAC Quarterfinal.
Â
"It definitely helps our confidence going into the postseason," said Maci. "We've played a lot of tough games where they have been tight and contested, and it's good to win those as well, but being able to come out and put goals in like tonight was nice to see."
Â
