Ayrton Martino propelled the Knights to a game one win early in OT when he was able to tuck home a rebound off of a shot from
Zach Tsekos at 1:35 of the first overtime.
The two teams traded goals in regulation,
Noah Beck put the Knights up 1-0 at 14:25 of the first on a point shot. Clarkson's
Ryan Richardson was assessed a 5 min major for hit from behind and the Knights had nearly killed off the entire penalty until Union was able to jam home a loose puck and tie the game. At 14:03
Mathieu Gosselin was able to pick up a bobbled puck off a
Alex Campbell rush and put the Knights up 2-1. Union would tie the game on a set face off play later in the second period. The third period would not see either team score which sent the game to overtime.
The Knights came out with two strong shifts to start the extra frame and pressure along the wall by
Jack Jacome forced the puck to Tsekos who was able to fire it on net, leading to the Martino goal.
Ethan Haider made 25 saves in the win. Clarkson out shot the Dutchmen 40 to 27.
The two teams will play game #2 tomorrow at 7:00 pm, with Clarkson holding the 1-0 lead in the series.
