ITHACA, NY - Game two was much of the same from the night before, not a lot of shots, great pace, and low scoring, but in the end the Cornell Big Red found their way to advancing to Lake Placid next weekend.
Clarkson got a strong start in a game that they need to win to keep the season alive. The Knights outshot the Big Red 5 to 4 in the opening period and did a good job of creating traffic in front of Ian Shane. Each team had a power play opportunity in the first and the Knights ended the period down a man. There was a play reviewed in the period, a Cornell wrap-around attempt was saved by
Ethan Haider, the officials did look to see if the puck crossed the line, but the call on the ice of no goal was upheld.
In the 2nd period, the Knights would start with 1:38 of penalty time left to kill which would become a theme throughout the period as 6 penalties total were called in the period. Cornell was able to break through on the power play at 8:30 when Max Andreev's shot was able to get to the far corner before a Knight defender or Haider could get across. Cornell out shot Clarkson 9 to 5 in the period.
he 3rd period saw the Knights come out with a good push, but a late goal and then another with the empty net would secure the victory for the Big Red. Clarkson would get on the board late as Tommy Passanen would make it 3-1
with under 21 seconds to go.
Ethan Haider would make 21 saves for the Knights, Clarkson was 0 for 3 on the power play, while holding Cornell to 1 for 7 on the power play.
Clarkson will release their 2023-24 schedule soon and fans will have a chance to purchase tickets for those games.
