A Dozen CU Student-Athletes Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

Eight members of the Clarkson University Men's and Women's Hockey teams and four student-athletes from the Golden Knights' Men's and Women's Lacrosse programs were rewarded for their excellence on the ice, the field, and in the classroom as the 2024-25 College Sports Communicator Academic All-District At-Large teams were announced.

The 2025 Academic All-District® At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletics and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Selections must have a 3.50 grade-point average or better with at least sophomore athletic and academic standing to be considered. Additionally, nominees must compete in at least 90% of athletic competitions, or start 66% of a program's games.The At-Large teams are selected from a variety of sports that are not universally offered at schools across the country

From the Golden Knights' men's hockey team, seniors Ayrton Martino and Ryan Richardson and juniors Tristan Sarsland and Trey Taylor were named, with Martino and Taylor advancing for All-American consideration. From the women's hockey program, graduate student Anne Cherkowski, seniors Jenna Goodwin and Haley Winn, and junior Sena Catterall were picked, with Cherkowski and Winn moving along for CSC All-American voting. From the men's lacrosse team, graduate student Matt Szwagulinski and sophomore Dylan Coan were picked, and from the women's lacorsse team, graduate student Madelynn Barnum and junior Maeve Bartell were named. Both Szwagulinsi and Barnum also moved on for the CSC All-American voting. 

Martino, a senior majoring in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was named the ECAC Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American after leading the conference with 51 points, the first Clarkson player to eclipse 50 points in nearly three decades. 

Richardson, a senior majoring in Global Supply Chain Management, was on the team's top line and finished third on the team in scoring with 30 points, registering 11 goals and 19 assists.

Sarsland, a junior majoring in Financial Information and Analysis, contributed 23 points on the season, the fifth best total for the team, including eight goals and 15 assists with a +14 rating. 

Taylor, a junior majoring in Business Administration, was picked as an ECAC Hockey First-Team All-Star and as the league's top defenseman for a second straight year, garnering Second-Team All-American status thanks to 29 points on nine goals and 20 assists.  

Cherkowski, a graduate student who majored in Civil Engineering and completed her MBA this past season, was an All-ECAC First-Team selection thanks to placing second on the team in points with 45, scoring 17 goals with 28 assists. 

Winn, a senior majoring in Psychology, was the ECAC Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American as one of the top 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award. She scored 46 points on 14 goals and 32 assists as one of the top defensive players in the country. 

Goodwin, a senior majoring in Biology, used her outstanding skating speed to produce 21 points on 13 goals and eight assists, including two shorthanded goals and four unassisted goals. 

Catterall, a junior majoring in Chemical Engineering, closed out the 2024-25 campaign with 37 points on 19 goals and 18 assists, ranking as the team leader in goals scored while tallying a team-best seven power-play goals. 

Szwagulinski, a graduate student majoring in Global Supply Chain Management as an undergrad before advancing for his MBA, was Clarkson's first ever three-time All-American selection, earning Honorable Mention honors for the third straight year after yet another all-star season in which he led the conference in caused turnovers. 

Coan, a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering, was a consistent defensive starter for the Golden Knights, ranking among the team leaders in caused turnovers and groundballs. 

Barnum, a graduate student who majored in Mechanica Engineering before embarking on studies for her MBA, was a USA Lacrosse All-American, an IWLCA All-Region selection, and the Liberty League's Offensive Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, leading the conference in goals scored and points scored. 

Bartell, a junior majoring in Environmental Engineering, started 16 of 17 games, relenting her spot only on senior day, as she was among the team leaders with 21 groundballs while also adding in two goals scored from her defensive spot on the field.
