Historic night for Clarkson and ECAC in the PWHL Draft

6/25/2025 8:57:00 AM

Last night's 2025 PWHL Draft was a historic evening for the Clarkson Women's Hockey Program, as three of the program's standout players heard their names called among the league's top nine selections. Haley Winn, Anne Cherkowski, and Nicole Gosling will now join 11 other former Golden Knights to have joined a PWHL roster. Their selections mark another high point in a program known for producing elite-level talent and championship-caliber leaders.  The ECAC, widely considered the top league in the NCAA, saw 15 selections from ECAC Hockey institutions, with 7 of the league's 12 institutions having at least one former player taken in the draft.

"What an incredible night for Haley, Nicole, and Anne. To have all three of them chosen in the first nine picks shows the dedication and effort they all put into their development during their time at Clarkson. It was such a proud moment for our program to watch them walk across the stage in the first steps to reaching their goals and dreams of playing professional hockey. We can't wait to watch them make an impact on their respective teams and the PWHL"  said coach Matt Desrosiers.

Haley Winn Drafted 2nd Overall by Boston Fleet

A defensive anchor for the Golden Knights, Haley Winn was chosen 2nd overall by the Boston Fleet, making her the highest-drafted Clarkson player in PWHL history. Winn capped her senior season with 14 goals and 32 assists in 38 games, earning a long list of accolades: ECAC Player of the Year, Defender of the Year, First-Team All-American, and a Patty Kazmaier Award finalist.  Her international resume is equally impressive—she was a key part of Team USA's gold medal win at the 2025 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Nicole Gosling Taken 4th Overall by Montréal Victoire

Nicole Gosling, one of the most decorated defenders in Clarkson history, was selected 4th overall by Montréal Victoire. A five-year contributor on the blue line, Gosling leaves Potsdam as Clarkson's all-time leading scorer among defenders, amassing 148 points (44G, 104A) in her collegiate career.

During her graduate season in 2024–25, she tallied 12 goals and 27 assists in 40 games and earned First-Team All-ECAC honors for the second consecutive year. Gosling also represented Team Canada at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, winning gold alongside her cousin, Julia Gosling.

Anne Cherkowski Selected 9th Overall by New York Sirens

With the 9th overall pick, the New York Sirens added graduate forward Anne Cherkowski, a skilled offensive force with high-end scoring touch. Cherkowski finished her final collegiate season with 17 goals and 28 assists, earning ECAC First-Team honors. She brought speed, tenacity, and a veteran presence to Clarkson's attack.

Clarkson's showing at the 2025 PWHL Draft stands as a testament to the program's reputation for the development of eleite level talent. With three players selected in the top nine picks, the Golden Knights once again affirmed their place as one of college hockey's top pipelines to the pros.  Winn, Gosling, and Cherkowski leave a legacy that the next generation of Golden Knights will look to build upon, and as they begin their next chapters in the PWHL, they carry with them the pride, tradition, and championship mindset of Clarkson Hockey.
