With a third of their conference games played and the team sitting in second place, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey will take a break from the ECAC Hockey schedule and will travel to Storrs, Connecticut for the Nutmeg Classic. They will open the tournament with a game against UConn on Friday night at 7:00 and then will play either Quinnipiac or Yale on Saturday.

Guided by seventh-year head coach Matt Desrosiers and first-year assistant coaches Meghan Duggan and Britni Smith, the Golden Knights stand at 10-4-1 overall with a 5-1-1 record in ECAC Hockey play. They are also ranked fifth and sixth in the two national polls. Last weekend they suffered their first conference loss at Quinnipiac, 1-0, but bounced back the next day to defeat Princeton 3-2.

After her streak of seven straight games with at least a point was broken against Quinnipiac, junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) scored the game-winning goal against Princeton. This brings her season tally to 12 goals which good enough for eighth in the country and her eight goals in conference play is good enough for first place. She also has three game-winning goals which ties her for third in the nation.

Freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) made 18 and 15 saves against Quinnipiac and Princeton respectively. Her save percentage of .955 leads the conference and her four total shutouts this season place her in a tie for fourth nationally.

Freshman forward Amanda Titus (Stittsville, ONT) had the first multiple point game of her career against Princeton. She opened the scoring with a goal in the first period and then had an assist on MacAulay's game-winning goal.

Sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE) scored a short-handed goal in the 3-2 win over Princeton. It was the first short-handed goal for the Green and Gold since Jamie Lee Rattray '14 scored one against Colgate on January 24th, 2014, a span of 30 games.

Junior assistant captain Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) failed to pick up a point for the first time this season in the loss against Quinnipiac, but tallied an assist against Princeton, giving her five points in six games she has played. In the ECAC Hockey conference, she is fourth in points for game among defenders and is tied for third in power-play goals.

Junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) also had an assist against Princeton, giving her 10 on the season, which ties her with Bannon for second-most on the team and just one behind MacAulay's team-leading 11. Mercer also has eight goals to give her 18 points with both of those totals placing her in a tie with Bannon for second-highest among the Golden Knights. She also has team-leading +24 so far.

Junior assistant captain Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) had an assist on Titus' opening goal against the Tigers. The assist represented her first point since she returned from representing Canada at the Four Nations Cup.

While she was unable to get on the scoresheet last weekend, freshman defenseman Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL) is still in third-place in points per game for a defenseman and fifth-place for points per game for a rookie in ECAC Hockey play.

The Golden Knights are currently 12-of-45 on man-advantage opportunities, which is the fourth best percentage in the country. They have also killed off 30 of the 34 man-advantage opportunities their opponents have had. They hold an overall shot advantage of 440 shots to only 320 for their opponents this season. They are also 9-0-0 when scoring first and a perfect 7-0-0 when leading after the second period.

The Connecticut Huskies come into the Nutmeg Classic with a 3-9-5 record, however seven of their losses have come against nationally-ranked teams. They are currently riding a four game losing streak with two losses coming against first-ranked Boston College and two to sixth-ranked Boston University. Clarkson and the Huskies have four common opponents this season. Both teams were swept by Boston University and fell to Quinnipiac and both defeated Brown. UConn was only able to pull out a tie against Syracuse while Clarkson defeated the Orange in both home and away games.

Although it will not count towards the conference standings, Clarkson will meet one of its ECAC Hockey opponents on Saturday. One of the two, Quinnipiac is the team who has handed the Golden Knights their only conference loss this season, just last week. The Bobcats continue to be ranked fourth in the country, a high for the program. They are undefeated with an 11-0-2 record and a 6-0-1 mark in ECAC Hockey play, which places them in first. They have been especially dominant defensively, with the number one nationally-ranked defense, allowing only six goals in 13 games. Senior goaltender Chelsea Laden also leads the nation with eight shutouts.

Yale has struggled this season, with their record standing at 4-4-1 overall and just 1-3-0 in ECAC Hockey play, placing them in a tie for eighth. However, in the earlier meeting this season, the Bulldogs and Clarkson played a tight contest with Clarkson needing a third period goal from Harmon to pull out a 2-1 win. Clarkson is now unbeaten in its last eight games against Yale.
