Clarkson will play in the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off Championship tomorrow thanks to an epic comeback over UMass tonight at the FISERV Forum in Milwaukee, WI.
Clarkson fell behind in the first period when the Minutemen scored on a power play goal at 8:23, despite outshooting UMass 15 to 6. Then UMass was able to strike early in the 2nd period to stake a 3-0 lead.
Then at 13:48 of the 2nd,
Mathieu Gosselin scored to open the floodgates for the Knights.
Ayrton Martino would pull the Knights to within 1 at 16:54 of the 2nd.
The 3rd period saw the Knights even the score at 10:50 as
Anthony Romano made his presence back in the lineup payoff. Martino would get his 2nd of the game just a few minutes later to put the Knights in the lead. Romano and Gosselin would add a 5th and 6th goal to ice the victory for Clarkson.
Ethan Haider would shut down UMass in the final frame making 11 saves in the 3rd to finish with a game total of 32.
Martino paced the Knights offensively with 4 points on 2 goals and 2 assists.
Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup added two assists on the night. Clarkson scored on their only power play of the game, while UMass went 1-3 with the man advantage.
Clarkson will face the winner of the Wisconsin v Lake Superior State game this evening. Wisconsin will play the late game on Thursday no matter the outcome of their game.
